1st December 2007 - Christmas Concert, Uppermill Civic Hall.
The third annual concert with Dobcross Silver Band at Uppermill Civic. Details from Phil Beck of Champion Brass.

4th November 2007 - Pontins Contest, Prestatyn.
This was the bands best result to date. A second place in the Championship Section at Pontins. 4barsrest.com described their performance, from a number 1 draw, as leaving scorch marks on the ceiling. It was truly outstanding performance, one Glyn is truly proud of.

8th July 2007 - Morley March Contest.
This was the inaugural contest at Morley and Marsden fnished the year in style, winning every prize availabe to them. Best deportment, best street march, best hymn, best march and overall champions.An ecellent result to end an excellent march contest season with the only blip a second place at Brighouse.

1st July 2007 - Brighouse March Contest.
The band were defending chamions but this year were placed second overall.

30th June 2007 - Easingwold March Contest.
The band were defending champions and were placed 2nd in deportment and won the march on the stand. Their combined results meant they were crowned the Easingwold March and Deportment Champions for the sixth successive year.

24th June 2007 - The Hobbitt, Halifax.
This was the inaugural contest at the Hobbitt. Marsden won the march and were crowned overall champions for their combined placings on the hymn and march.

1st June 2007 - Whit Friday, Saddleworth, Oldham.
Marsden finished 3rd overall in the Saddleworth Championship under the direction of Geoff Whitham. Their results included two seconds, two Fourths and a fifth.

19th May 2007 - Spring Festival, Winter Garden, Blackpool.
The band were placed 14th and were disappointed with the result having played an exciting performance.

4th March 2007 - Yorkshire Regionals, St Georges Hall, Bradford.
Upon competing in the Championship Section this year, following their promotion from the First section, the band were placed twelfth ahead of Drighlington. The winners of the contest were Brighouse and Rastrick.

4th November 2006 - Pontins, Prestatyn.
The band finished 12th in the First Section. This was a disappointing result, as the band thought they had put down a good performance. Ajudicators Remarks

24th September 2006 – National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, Harrogate, North Yorkshire
The band were placed 9th out of 17 in the First Section at the National Championships. They were disappointed with their performance and thought the result was a fair reflection of their playing on the day.

2nd July 2006 – Brighouse March and Hymn Tune Contest
The band were crowned Brighouse March and Hymn Tune Champions outright. They were placed first in the March and combined with their placing for the Hymn tune, were awarded 1st place overall. Jason Evans again won the Best Solo Cornet prize and was presented with a Yamaha Cornet, which he has kindly donated to the band.

24th June 2006 – Easingwold March Contest
Marsden had another successful evening at Easingwold. They were placed 1st in the March with 196 points for their performance of Honest Toil. In addition they received the award for Best Basses and were placed 2nd in the Deportment competition. This means that they were placed first overall for their combined placing of deportment and contest march.

9th June 2006 – Whit Friday March Contests, Saddleworth, Oldham.
The band had their most successful Whit Friday to date by finishing runners up in the Overall Saddleworth Cahmpionship. The band competed in 8 contests and were placed as follows: Scouthead 4th, Delph 2nd, Dobcross 3rd, Greenacres 3rd, Greenfield 5th (best 1st section), Groton 3rd, Lydgate 10th and Uppermill 3rd. They also won 2nd best local at Greenacres and at Dobcoross were rewarded as the highest placed band that played on the morning walks. In addition Jason Evans won 3 best solo cornet prizes at Greenacres, Grotton and Top Mossley in Tameside.

21st May 2006 – Holmfirth Contest, Holmfirth.
Marsden went one better than 2005 by winning the Test Piece for their performance of Essence of Time.

13th May 2006 – Spring Festival, Winter Gardens, Blackpool.
The band competed in the Senior Trophy for the first time in their recent history. They were placed a creditable 9th for their performance of Essence of Time.

26th March 2006 – Tameside Contest, Hippodrome, Ashton.
The band were placed 3rd with their performance of the area test piece, Voyage of Discovery.

4th March 2006 – Yorkshire Area, St Georges Hall. Bradford.
Qualification for the Nationals and promotion to the Championship Section were the goal of the weekend and both were achieved. 2nd place with 190 points assured the band of their promotion and saw them qualify for the Nationals in Harrogate on 23/24th September. The winners on the day were Drighlington with 192 points.

21st January 2006 - Butlins Contest, Skegness.
The band were drawn number nine and gave a very good account of themselves. Their performance was good enough to be placed second with 190 points.

17th December 2005 – Christmas Concert, Marsden Parish Church.
The band performed their annual Christmas Concert. Their special guests were the Colne Valley Male Voice Choir, led by Mr T Meredith.

27th November 2005 – Uppermill Contest, Uppermill Civic Hall.
The band again competed in the championship section and proved they could hold their own when they were placed second. They also won Best Basses.

20th November 2005 – Wilkinsons Contest, St. Helens.
The band competed in the Championship section and were placed second for their performance of Lorenzo, against a very strong field. Andrew Lofthouse won the best soprano cornet prize.

29th October 2005 – Pontins Contest, Prestatyn.
Another successful day was had by the band, being placed 1st in the First Section of the Pontins contest. In 2nd place were Backburn and Darwen, with Glossop Old in 3rd. A full review of the results is available on www.4barsrest.com

3rd July 2005 - Brighouse March and Hymn Tune Contest, Brighouse.
The band tied for 1st place overall with Hepworth, the result was decided on the band that was placed highest on the street march. As that was Hepworth they were awarded 1st place overall with Marsden 2nd. Marsden were however placed 1st in the march on the stand for their performance of Honest Toil, best 1st Section band and their principal cornet player, Jason Evans, was declared best cornet of the day. He was rewarded with the prize of a Yamaha cornet. A good days work by anyones standards.

2nd July 2005 - Diggle March Contest, Diggle.
Following on from Easingwold, the band were awarded 1st prize overall at the Diggle March and Hymn tune contest for their performances of Honest Toil and Whitburn. They scored 192 points for the combined totals. They also won the best basses and solo cornet prizes.

25th June 2005 - Easingwold March Contest, Easingwold.
Marsden won the Easingwold march contest with 96 points out of 100 for their performance of "Honest Toil". This coupled with their 3rd place in deportment crowned the overall champions for 2005. This is a hatrick of success at Easingwold for Marsden.

11th June 2005 - French Open, Amboise, France.
The band competed for the first time in its history in Amboise. They set off on Thursday evening arriving about lunch time at their accomodation. After a restful Friday and a good nights sleep on the Friday it was down to the serious business. The band competed at the theatre in the Excellence section first then immediately after took part in the March contest. The results were announced during the interval of the gala concert. Marsden were awarded 1st place in their section and they won the march overall.

5th June 2005 - Wigan March and Hymn Tune Contest, JJB Stadium, Wigan.
The band continued it's success of Whit Friday by winning the overall March and Hymn tune prizes, beating several Championship section bands in the process. A marvellous achievement.

20th May 2005 - Whit Friday March Contests, Saddleworth.
Another good Whit Friday saw the band pick up 2nd place in the Local Saddleworth Championship, along with 4th place overall at Delph. The band competed in 7 contests and were never outside the top 10, being in the top 5 at six of the contests.

7th May 2005 - Meltham March Contest, Meltham.
Meltham March contest saw the band retain its titles, winning both the hymn and the march. The band receiving 95 points for their performance of the hymn Whitburn and 94 points for the march Honest Toil.

30th April 2005 - Boarshurst March Contest, Greenfield.
The band continued it's winning ways, taking 6 of the 7 prizes available at the Boarshurst March Contest. Including the Lordsmere Cup. The band took away prizes for Best Basses, Euphoniums, Trombones, Best Hymn and Best March. To cap a fine night the band also won the deportment prize.

24th April 2005 - Holmfirth Contest, Holmfirth.
The band had a successful day and shared the spoils with Hade Edge. Marsden were placed first in the Hymn with 95 points and were 2nd in the test piece with 193 points, only one point behind Hade Edge. In addition to the main prizes, Marsden also took away prizes for Best Euphonium and best Bass section. As both Marsden and Hade Edge had the same aggregate scores for Test piece and Hymn, the conductors will share the prize for most successful conductor of the day.

3rd April 2005 - Tameside Contest, Ashton.
The band were placed 4th with 188 points in the Championship section. A slightly dissapointing result, but the remarks reflected the position the band were placed.

5th March 2005 - Yorkshire Area Championships, St Georges Hall, Bradford
The band produced a fine performance of Comedy and were rewarded with 3rd place, obtaining 191 points, behind Hatfield and Yorkshire Imps resectively. The band were obviously dissapointed to miss out on a place at the finals by one point, but third behind a promoted band (2004 but appealed) and a recently (2004) relegated band, is generally viewed as a satisfactory result.

6th February 2005 - Northern Open, Guild Hall, Preston
Alan Hobbins took the band on Comedy Overture, the test piece the band will be playing at Bradford next month. On their first appearance at the Guild Hall, the band were placed a creditable 8th in the Championship Section out of 20 bands, with 184 points.

28th November 2004 - Uppermill Contest
The band chose to play Quintessence by Robert Redhead at Uppermill, having had success at Wilkinsons the previous week. Again the band's efforts were rewarded with a third place overall. They achieved 189 points, with the winning band having 192 points.

21st November 2004 - Wilkinsons Contest
The band contuinued it's recent successes. Taking away the best euphonium prize and third place overall.

12th September 2004 - Hardraw Scar Contest
The band continued it's success under the baton of Glyn Williams, scoring 286 points out of a possible 300, to claim first place overall. In addition the band received first prizes for their performances of Honest Toil and Whitburn.

11th September 2004 - Last Night of the Proms Concert, Marsden Mechanics Hall, Marsden
The band introduced both their musical director and assistant conductor to the audience in style. Both Alan Hobbins and Glyn Williams conducted and performed solos with the band to a packed Mechanics Hall. The concert concluded with a rousing proms ending.

28th August 2004 - Concert, Ilkley
The band took part in a musical extravaganza in the new band stand in Ilkley town square. They were the finale to a proms concert of jazz, and a soprano singer. The first half of the bands performance was traditional with a March and overure and some film music. Share My Yolk was played by principal cornet player Jason Evans. The second half was proms and the band accompanied the soprano singer in Jerusalem and Rule Britannia. They ended the concert with 1812 overture, after which there was a magnificent firework display.

26th June 2004 - March Contest, Easingwold.
Another successful night saw the band placed first overall, under the direction of Alan Hobbins. The aggregate scores for 2nd place in both the deportment and the contest march, coupled with a higher placing in the contest march, saw the band pip Dobcross Silver for the honour of Easingwold March and Deportment Champions 2004.

19th June 2004 - Concert, Marsden Parish Church.
The bands first concert under Glyn Williams, showed a new dimension to bands the abilities and diversity. The three soloists of the night, Jason Evans (Share My Yoke), Debbie Lea (One Day in Your Life) and David Woodward (La Belle Americaine) were outstanding.

6th June 2004 - Wigan March Contest
The bands first outing at Wigan saw them placed 3rd overall in the march and 5th overall in the hymn tune. The band were place 1st in the First Section Competition for the March.

4th June 2004 - Whit Friday, Saddleworth
Another good Whit Friday, saw the band compete in 7 contests. The band were placed 3rd overall at Delph and crowned local Saddleworth Champions for 2004. The band also got two best 1st section prizes.

22nd May 2004 - Meltham March and Hymn Tune Contest
The first Meltham march contest saw the band take top spot in both the hymn and the march. The band were awarded 47 points for their performance of Whitburn and 92 points for Honest Toil. It was a very pleasing result, particularly as it was their first outing under the baton of Alan Hobbins. Alan has been appointed assistant conductor to their musical director, Glyn Williams.

25th April 2004 - Holmfirth Contest, Holmfirth Civic Hall.
The band had a successful day at the 78th Holmfirth contest, being placed 1st in the Hymn, playing Whitburn. The adjudicator, Mr John Maine, then placed the band 2nd in the test piece for their performance of Coventry Variations. To cap a very fine day, the Albert Robinson Trophy was awarded to our conductor, Glynn Williams, for the highest agregate score for test piece and hymn.

6th March 2004 - Yorkshire area contest.
A good performance of Coventry Variations but a disappointing result, the band being placed 6th.

November 2003 - Uppermill Civic Hall concert.
The band made their debut at Uppermill Civic Hall with a strong programme and rousing finale combining some favourites such as William Tell with a 'Last Night of the Proms'.

October 2003 - CD recording with Colne Valley Male Voice Choir.
The band spent an enjoyable morning accompanying CVMVC on their latest album of hymns.

September 2003 - Another TV appearance for the band.
Where the Heart Is Christmas special was recorded in Marsden Church with the band appearing in the opening titles. This is the third appearance for the band on the successful TV drama.

12th July 2003 - Durham Miners Gala
Another good day out for the band, enjoying the hospitality of the North East.

28th June 2003 - Easingwold March Contest
Despite winning the march contest the band were placed second overall due to a disappointing deportment result.

13th June 2003 - Whit Friday
Expectation was high at this years Whit Friday contests with the band winning at the Delph contest for the last two years. Sadly we did't manage to complete that memorable hat-trick, being pipped to the post by just half a point by Black Dyke (again). The band also gained a 4th and a 6th and came second in the 'Local' category.

30th March 2003 - Pogson Bray Contest
At this years annual outing down the road to Huddersfield Town Hall the competition was fierce, despite this the band was able to gain third place and the prize for best hymn.

2nd March 2003 - Yorkshire Area
The band needed a very strong result in the area this year to maintain their Championship section status, sadly this wasn't to be. Despite what we thought was a vastly improved performance from last year, we couldn't even beat Black Dyke. Usually this wouldn't be a problem, but they don't usually come 13th.

November 2002 - Malton Contest
At Malton this year, the band was on a hat-trick, but despite what we were told was an excellent performance the band finished 4th.

July 13th & 14th 2002 - Durham Miners Gala
The band made its now annual trip up to the Miners Gala in Durham, this time staying overnight and playing again on the sunday Morning. It was once again a weekend to remember with a good time had by all.

July 2002 - Songs of Praise
Earlier in the year, the band was approached by the BBC with a view to recording a hymn for 'Songs of Praise'. We agreed and it was recorded on two days in July, the first was recording the sound in Marsden Church and the second was recording the pictures by the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.

24th May 2002 - Whit Friday
Whit Friday was once again a night to remember as the band participated in 9 contests in total, winning two (Delph and Scouthead) and coming third in two. This gave the band third place overall behind Brighouse and Rastrick and the Navigation band, generating some much needed revenue for our band. This is one of the band's most notable achievements to date.

8th May 2002 - Buxton Contest
In May 2002, the band made the trip to the picturesque town of Buxton, in the Peak District for its annual contest. Despite another good performance of Diadem, we were placed a disappointing 8th.

21st March 2002 - Pogson Bray Contest
The Pogson-Bray contest, which takes place in Huddersfield Town hall, was a success as the band picked up all of the prizes in the upper section. The prizes were for Hymn, March (Honest Toil) and Test Piece (Diadem of Gold)

3rd March 2002 - Yorkshire Area
In 2002 the band competed for the first time in the Championship Section at the Yorkshire Area. Despite the disappointing result (15th) the band was pleased by their performance and enjoyed the opportunity of playing alongside some of the best bands around.

10th & 11th November 2001 - CD Recording
A new page has recently been written in the band's history with the recording of a CD. The CD was recorded at Marsden Mechanics Hall and contains some of the tracks featured in the Malton Entertainment contest program. For details of how to purchase a copy of the CD, see our CD page. 4th November 2001 - Malton Entertainment Contest
The band retained the title of Malton Entertainment Champions, almost achieving a clean sweep winning: best soloist, best march, best basses in the march and the overall 1st prize. The only prize they didn't win was the most versatile percussion. This prize went to South Yorkshire Police, as did the overall second prize, with Nestle Rowntree being placed third.
